Looking through history we see extraordinary leaps and jumps within the education system, but whoever thought up of the learning management system to facilitate online learning? The progression from education then to education now is simply nothing less than an immense accomplishment, yet there seems to be continuous initiatives to develop new ways to further education. With technology constantly striving to breakthrough new walls, it should not surprise us as a new generation of technology within the learning management system begins to develop.
Back in the 1700’s classrooms were very minimalistic with a one room school house containing multiple age groups. Schools started rapidly developing, opening their doors for children of all ages, social groups, ethnicities, and genders. Students were put into age groups and created a class for each age group with their own age appropriate material. Now we fast forward to the day when computers were first integrated and introduced into the schools. They soon made their way into the curriculum and computer classes were made mandatory for students to learn basic skills like typing.
Technology never ceases to amaze us with their innovative creations, and the introduction to wireless internet was no exception. It can now be found on most every college campus, internet cafes or free wifi signs have been popping up at local coffee houses, workplaces offer wireless internet and even some residential living areas. High Schools are starting to revolutionize their system as they too transition to the web, students are now asked to conduct all transactions of assignments online and are able to view their assignment schedules on School’s portals. This new enhancement has made the Parents lives easier as they are now able to keep track of their child’s progression and performance in their classes as online report cards have been integrated as a valuable resource to ensure students are being kept accountable. Universities are cashing in with the new online learning trend as they create distant learning programs that enable students to receive their degree online via learning management system.
Technology never rests as there is a continuous drive to find new ways of making higher education more efficient. This has resulted in new interactive courses being implemented into the curriculum with virtual instructor led webinars, advanced assessment tools to measure students’ comprehension and reaction to the material. Content developers have acknowledged the different learning methods and have implemented different styles into their course to appeal to each type of learner. Opportunity has been presented to us with this valuable means of higher education as the learning management system provides an efficient way to distribute necessary curriculum to a mass audience. It has been nothing less than exciting to see how we have progressed and advanced and still knowing that this is more to come in regards to future developments within the education system.
