Examining The Affect Of New Technology In The Area Of Maths Private Online Tutoring from Degree Space

The concept of online tuition is one that first came into existence in the mid 90s as pioneers looked to make use of the internet as a vehicle for learning. The next decade saw online tutoring services become more popular as it began to offer a genuine alternative to traditional private tutoring, with maths being a particular growth area. However, the biggest increase in popularity of online tutoring has come in the last 5 or 6 years as technology has improved. Here we look at the technological advances that have impacted upon online tuition and how they have altered maths tuition forever.

New technology

There are three key areas of new technology that have recently been introduced to the online tuition arena. The first and perhaps most important is VOIP, which allows for spoken communication between pupils and teachers. The second advancement is the use of instant messaging. The third introduction comes in the form of the shared whiteboard, which can be operated using a mouse or digital pen by both teacher and students.

Interaction

In its early days, online maths tuition was automated and saw the student downloading learning materials and then studying in solitude. The use of these relatively new technologies in the online private tutoring arena means that real teachers can now deliver lessons over the internet. The increased ability to interact means that teachers can offer feedback to their students, providing tips and locating any areas of weakness.

Group sessions

Research suggests that most students benefit from taking part in group work as well as working on their own. With the improvement in communications they are now able to achieve this whilst receiving tuition online, increasing confidence and understanding of the topic. The fact that online tutoring now offers better learning opportunities than traditional private tutoring, in addition to being cheaper and more convenient, means that its popularity it only going to increase further.

Handling The Pressures That Can Result From Private Tutoring from Degree Space

There are now more children receiving private private tutoring in the UK than ever before, yet there can still be a stigma associated with it. This kind of attitude is especially prevalent in working class and inner city areas where educational levels aren’t the best. Pupils that are victims of this kind of abuse often struggle to understand why they are targeted in this way and how they can handle the problem.

Understanding the bullies

Bullies tend to pick on others as a way of deflecting attention from their own shortcomings. Therefore it could be that they are teasing you over your private tutoring because of their own lack of ability in a certain area. Or perhaps they are jealous that you have parents that care enough to pay for a private tutor, when their own parents show little interest in their education.

Workable strategies

If you haven’t yet begun your private tutoring and no-one else knows about it then you may decide that the best option is to keep it to yourself. However, if you have been receiving help for some time and everyone is aware of it then your strategy on dealing with the problem depends on how serious the problem has become.

If the bullying amounts to some name calling or teasing then making fun of yourself can be a good way of tackling it. Bullies tend to soon move on if they aren’t getting the reaction that they want – which is upsetting you in some way.

More serious problems

If you are a victim of more serious bullying such as physical abuse or if the verbal abuse has become too much to bear then it is time to involve a third party. Raising the issue with a parent or teacher is the best course of action to take and in most instances will soon solve the problem.

What Are Digital Tutors? from Degree Space

Digital tutors are individuals who share their experience of working with sophisticated video and graphics software, mainly through tutorial videos that can be downloaded. Written articles with pictures of the work process can also be provided but in the past few years it is mainly videos that are used as they are a much clearer form of tutoring. The best part of learning from these experts is that their videos tend to be free to download.

The way a digital tutor tends to share their work is by creating a movie file that usually consists solely of an opening title and then just a one-take point-of-view shot as the tutor goes through a particular process from start to end. These can be any length of time but for most techniques there would be an average of ten minutes per tutorial video. These videos are then uploaded to a site that specializes in providing this kind of tutoring service or a site like www.youtube.com where any videos can be posted. People interested in learning about the particular technique being demonstrated can then watch or download the movie file.

Often digital tutors will also provide project files that go along with their videos. These files can be downloaded and opened in the program that is being discussed. This allows the person learning to work with the same files that are used in the video and get comfortable with the techniques and processes before trying with their own files. Often these project files will be at a lower resolution to prevent people from simply copying the work of the tutor for financial gain.

Digital tutors support their videos and the people who download them by making their email available if anyone has questions about their video tutorials. This is very beneficial, especially when people have tried to apply the techniques shown in the tutorial to their own projects and have not had the same level of success. Just like with tutors who you see face-to-face, this gives you the chance to directly question the tutor and get a specific answer, thus removing some of the distance created with online tutors.

Digital tutors provide a great service to all of those in the design and video industry. The no-cost tutoring that is made available for everyone has resulted in a significant leap forward in the abilities of experienced professionals, and has helped even those just starting out provide quality work for their clients. As technology becomes more sophisticated it is likely that the videos tutorials will become even more useful and interactive as well, increasing the level of support that these people provide.

What Are Digital Tutors? from Degree Space

There is a company called Digital Tutors but essentially this name can be used to describe any type of online tutor, though usually it is those who are specialized in video and graphic editing programs that go by that particular term. These people tend to provide a form of free tutoring through the creation of tutorial videos that are available for the general public to download. It is pretty rare for one-on-one tutoring to occur in this fashion.

The way a digital tutor tends to share their work is by creating a movie file that usually consists solely of an opening title and then just a one-take point-of-view shot as the tutor goes through a particular process from start to end. These can be any length of time but for most techniques there would be an average of ten minutes per tutorial video. Often these project files will be at a lower resolution to prevent people from simply copying the work of the tutor for financial gain.

The other way that digital tutors provide support is through comment sections and email. Usually there will be space for people who have watched and tried out the video tutorial to post their comments any offer other advice they can share with others. The person who made the video will often comment when appropriate, and in addition they will usually provide an email address so people can send their questions and feedback. In this way, if someone is having trouble applying the techniques shown to their own project, they can obtain support directly from the tutor.

Digital tutors play an important role in the field of graphic design and video editing. These people provide the free tutoring videos to a lot of different people out there, which has proven to be very beneficial in helping people meet deadlines and satisfy clients, or help them with their studies and personal projects. This service is a great way for those new to the industry to learn from others with more experience, and for professionals to stay up-to-date with new techniques and programs.

A Peer Tutoring Program Outline from Degree Space

The importance of a tutoring program in high school cannot be emphasized enough. How a student performs in his or her high school years can have a significant effect on their post-secondary life. High grades and test scores can mean scholarships and admission into prestigious universities. Passing grades for those who are not academically inclined can mean the difference between finishing with a high school diploma and more job opportunities, and not completing high school at all. A peer, school tutoring system can be very beneficial to all students but there are a few steps that should be taken to ensure success.

The first thing to do is make sure that there is actually interest in implementing a peer tutoring program. Without the support from the students both giving and receiving the tutoring, there is no real hope of success. Peers who can become tutors, such as math and English tutors for example, is a great concept but it requires active participation from everyone involved in order for it to work. The best thing to do is research. Conduct surveys, run a couple of trial sessions with interested candidates, and involve the teachers and administrators from the beginning to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

The way peer tutoring programs usually work is through the pairing of students. Usually those in the top of the class, such as those getting A’s in certain subjects, will be assigned to work with students at the other end of the academic spectrum, such as those failing or struggling to maintain even C averages. Some schools have had great success by allowing the students to choose each other, and in some cases letting students advertise themselves as providing a tutoring service. Each school will need its own approach, and this can be determined again through proper research.

Payment is not always found in peer school tutoring programs, but it can provide positive results. Payment can be in the form of money, given to the student by the school, not the student being tutored; or it can be in the form of other types of rewards. This could be anything from cafeteria food to points that build up to be used in field trips. Without payment, these programs will only go so far. Maximum success will result from a financial investment made by the school.

The ultimate end of a well-run peer tutoring program is a group of students who have the satisfaction of helping others and being paid for their academic abilities, and a group of students who haven’t fallen through the cracks and are able to reach their own scholastic goals. This of course can be measured in the increase of grades and test scores by those receiving the tutoring, and by the feedback provided by both groups of students. Peer tutoring has a great chance of succeeding but the students involved will need the support of the adults in charge at the school.

Job Qualifications of Private Tutors from Degree Space

Despite the availability of free tutoring online in a wide range of subjects, private tutors are still being hired all the time. Information that can be found on the internet can be very helpful but generally requires the person who is studying to be very self-motivated. Private tutoring helps direct the student in the appropriate direction so that time spent searching though endless websites is minimized. In order to be a successful tutor, however, there are certain qualities that should be possessed.

Private tutors first and foremost need to be experts in their field. They have to have a strong knowledge of whatever subject they are teaching, and if they don’t know enough to be considered an expert, then they should at least be proficient enough to meet the learning needs of the people they are tutoring. For example, a math tutor does not necessarily need to have mastered university-level math in order to tutor high school students, but they should then be very proficient in high school math.

Tutors are also usually not certified as teachers. Those who have teacher certification tend to find work as teachers, working in classrooms with large numbers of students. Typically, tutors are university students who do tutoring work as a way to earn income. They may be planning on becoming a teacher after university, and tutoring is an easy way to get teaching experience. Or, they may be tutoring others in their chosen field, as a way to strengthen their knowledge of that particular subject, or to use their background to earn money.

Aside from background requirements, those who offer private tutoring need to be able to work well in a one-on-one situation with people. A private tutor implies that there will only be one person being taught, so it is important that the tutor be comfortable working with someone else, and possess the ability to motivate and properly adjust their tutoring techniques to meet the needs of the person they are being paid to help.

Private tutors tend to be individuals with a high degree of proficiency in a certain subject. This ability allows them to help others reach certain academic goals. With web tutoring becoming the new norm for tutoring sessions, those who market themselves as private instructors will need to show how they stand out from all the other tutors in the world.

The Popularity of The Video Tutorial from Degree Space

It is no surprise that the video tutorial is becoming one of the easiest and most popular ways to learn something new. Now with high speed internet connections and powerful laptops, it is expected that any research and studying online comes equipped with moving images and colorful graphics. Whether you agree with this supposedly “dumbing down” of information, tutorial videos are everywhere and they are helping a lot of people learn new subjects and processes, and taking advantage of technology to do so as well.

So why are video tutorials so popular? There are many reasons but the main one is the visual demonstration they are able to provide. An article can be well written and clearly explain a topic or a process, but in many cases a picture or a short video on the same subject will eliminate any confusion and misinterpretation. With more complicated subjects, and especially ones related to computer work, graphs and images, screen shots can help make the material being taught so much easier to understand.

In addition to the visual benefits, the video tutorial is also a more convenient form of tutoring than having to meet up with a personal tutor or visit a tutoring center in person. All your studying can be done from the convenience of your own home, and during the free time in your schedule. This is especially useful for people whose schedules are constantly changing to meet work or other demands, as they can still get all their studying done whenever they have free time just by jumping on the internet and pausing videos when they need to stop.

Video tutorials are also popular because they tend to be short and to the point. While a tutoring session can be for one or two hours, most videos are less than twenty minutes in length. This makes studying a lot more productive and enjoyable. If the tutorial is dragging, then whoever is watching the video may not bother watching all of it and will instead find another one. The attention span of most people seems to be a lot shorter than before and so these instructional videos really need to be engaging and delivered as quickly as possible. Sessions on multiple topics can be broken into several short lessons.

Free online tutoring is on the rise with many experts sharing their knowledge through the video tutorial format. The many conveniences that these videos offer and the ability for tutors to explain concepts through moving images and other graphics has led to a boom in this particular industry. As technology continues to develop, it is highly likely that these learning videos will become more interactive and offer a better learning experience.

Once you’ve followed along with the video tutorial you can communicate with your digital tutors through the use of email and comment sections. Most have a system where you can post your comments about the effectiveness of the video to both the tutor and to all the other people who may watch the video or who have already done so. An email address is also usually provided for more direct feedback and a chance to correspond with the person who made the video.

The Role of A Tutor from Degree Space

Needing the services of a tutor is no longer seen as some kind of failure to excel in academics. There are now tutors and tutoring programs for a wide range of different subjects and if you can’t find one near your home, then you can always check out what is available with online tutorials. Tutors are able to give individuals the edge they need to master a particular area of study, or give someone some extra support to master an aspect of their job. With regard to what makes tutors good or bad, there are essentially three main areas.

The main skill that tutors need is the ability to create a positive learning environment. For those tutoring online, it means setting things up so technical difficulties do not overwhelm students or distract them from the material being taught. It also means knowing the field that they are tutoring in very well so that they are a competent authority on the subject. While tutors do not necessarily require any kind of teaching certificate, an ability to teach is very important. They need to be able to transfer knowledge to their students in an effective manner, as being an expert in a field does not mean they will be able to help someone else be one too.

A tutor also needs to be able to access the abilities of their students and make adjustments to their lesson plans and teaching strategy to best meet the needs of their students. Brilliant tutoring programs in structure are not enough if the students fall behind or are too advanced for the initial approach. The tutor needs to figure out not only how their students are doing but adjust their approach to best help how their students learn. This is one of the key skills for becoming an effective and successful tutor.

Tutors are not so different from teachers, in that the great ones will always be said to inspire passion for learning. Even if lesson plans are well crafted in approach and delivery and are regularly adjusted to challenge students at the right level; to not encourage your students to become more proactive in their learning will limit production levels. This passion can be created by enthusiasm, by creative approaches with lesson material, or by regularly checking with and assisting your students to show how much you care about their progress.

A tutor can be an influential person in someone’s life, depending on how motivated they are. It doesn’t matter if they meet with students in person for after school tutoring or help people in different countries through an online tutoring center. What does matter is to research and know not only how to tutor effectively, but how to tutor specific students effectively. Add to that the ability to inspire others to work harder and this will equate to great success at tutoring.

Tutoring Homework Philosophy from Degree Space

For most tutors, tutoring homework is just as important as the actual time spent working with the students. The average tutor only meets with his or her students once or twice a week, and usually for only thirty to sixty minutes at a time. That’s not a lot of time and so to keep what is being taught fresh and relevant, homework needs to be assigned and done on a regular basis. The success rate of students who actually take the time to do their additional studies is far higher than that of those who do not.

Tutoring homework is of course given to students by their tutor after their regular session together. This time together is still an important part of the tutor and student relationship and without it any homework done will not be as effective. The tutor will be able to check on the accuracy of the homework and give advice on any corrections that need to be made. The tutor can also make adjustments to the tutorials and to subsequent assignments of homework based on how the student is progressing with their current assignments.

The second part of doing extra studies is being assigned homework by the tutor. While just spending time with a private tutor is likely to be helpful in improving a student’s overall scholastic abilities, supplementing that time with regular homework is important to keep the understanding strong and increase the value of hiring the tutor. Homework should be assigned that will allow students to practice whatever was covered in the tutoring sessions and to help deepen their understanding of whatever particular topic or technique they are studying.

The main purpose of tutor assigned homework is, of course, to strengthen the student’s understanding of the material being studied. Ideally, the homework assigned should be manageable and very focused on what the tutor is teaching. This is additional homework to whatever the student is also receiving in their standard schooling, so it cannot be excessive or little learning and retention will take place. The homework should also be very specific to what is being studied so that the student is able to completely learn the material and retain the information beyond a couple of days.

Parents who see the value in tutoring homework and are able to effectively work with the tutor and their children to schedule enough time to complete the assignments are bound to get more value out of the cost of hiring the tutor. Piling on too much homework can have detrimental effects on the student’s progress; however, it is important that a reasonable rate of assignments is given. If a proper balance between time spent with the tutor and time to do the homework, then students will get the most out of their additional instruction.
